“What are
you running from?” I say, echoing the me from several months ago when this
strange and beautiful creature had arrived on my doorstep, lost, and seeking
refuge from a world that might have destroyed a lesser woman.
She takes
several steps back until there’s nowhere left to go but on top of the counter.
“I’m not running from anything.”
I press
against her. She’s stiff as a board. That
makes two of us. “I miss you, Stella. I jack it every day thinking about
you, sometimes twice a day. I want you.”
“You
can’t have me, Van.”
“Bullshit,”
I hiss. I slide my hand into her hair, and pull her closer. I lean in, but I
don’t kiss her. “Tell me you miss me. Tell me you’re thinking about me, too.”
“I don’t
. . .” She shakes her head, but her breath is hot and heavy against my face.
“I’m not.”
I close
my eyes and rub my cheek against hers. My stubble is likely scratching her
delicate skin, but she doesn’t pull away, and I slide my hand under her shirt.
She’s braless. I groan. All those long days and nights she tortured me at the
cabin by wearing only my flannel shirts with no bra, and probably no panties

Stella Hart, country singer, america's sweetheart, cant deal, she feels like shes drowning, suffocating under the stage lights, the camera's, all the screaming fans and the label running her life. Stella is crawling out of her skin to escape the noise and expectations for just a little while. But she soon finds herself on the run, dodging wildlife, with a bottle of whiskey, and stuck on the side of a mountain in the freezing cold, somewhere in Canada. This wasn't what she had in mind when she ran from her life in the spotlight, and she soon finds herself in the home of a cocky, burly, Canadian, with a dirty mouth and a smile that makes her knees weak. Van Ross.
Van Ross center for the Calgary Crushers, is know for being the bad boy of hockey, a playboy. He lives up to his reputation of getting around. Hockey, woman and his brother are his life. Van knows what he wants and goes after it. He's cocky, a kick*** player, and he lets everyone know it. Van is in for one hell of a surprise, when he finds country royalty stuck on the side of his mountain. He's intrigued by the beautiful star, wondering whats sent her running, what she's hiding from. Van is not looking forward to reporters and her people, all up in his business looking for the runaway country star, but he cant turn her away. Not with her sweet eyes, innocent smile, and the wild streak he can see pushing to break free.
Van gives Stella a safe place to hide out, and she opens his eyes to more than meaningless hookups. With the banter, Van and Stella throw at each other, the sexual attraction they share, and the more time they spend together in Van's home, the burning passion is going to consume them. But can Van and Stella, who's lives are going in two completely different directions, hold onto this special bond that started on a mountain, in the middle of a snow drift, or will the pressures from each side of their life's end them before than can really discover one another.
So funny, deliciously sexy, and a perfect blend of cocky hockey star and sweet and sassy country girl. I really loved Van and Stella, and the craziness of their two worlds. Van with his dirty mind, his sweet (yet dirty) talk, and his big romantic heart hidden under his heart-breaker reputation. And Stella the sweet, innocent country girl, with a wildness looking to break out, and trying to hold it all together under the pressure to be what everyone else wants her to be. They Balance each other out perfectly. With all the sexy these two share and the laugh out loud things that comes out of Van's mouth, make for a quick and fantastic read. Carmen Jenner's writing is addicting, her characters lovable, hilarious and oh so swoon-worthy.
